My first day of art class with a nude male model
Roz, LOL when I saw your title: “Dude, Keep Your Penis Off the Page.” Your article took me back to my first day at university, in Art Class. A male model walks in. Undresses.
The Prof announces the lesson was Blind Contour Drawing:) Tiny little ants, our eye is to follow the contour of the body—without looking at our drawing, and never looking away from our subject.
My Prof appears behind me exactly when my eyes are inching towards the model’s genitals. She encourages me, a first year art student by saying, “Keep going… keep your eye on the form.”
The result: complete concentration on FORM (not function:).
In my case, the penis was the most prominent feature on my artist’s page. I drew a detailed, oversized, exaggerated penis for my first line art drawing. Got an “A” for that assignment.
Drawing class took a new direction, daily, and it was time to move on :)
