Using the audio feature is one way to ensure it tracks a read. I think Medium is pushing this feature.

Medium can also take a while to fully compile results. Once I thought a reader/supporter was not reading and the next day, the ratio changed.

True, some people SKIM, which is not reading. Eventually, you catch on to those who pretend, leave generic comments and those who offer genuine feedback.
