In all things, an artist cannot hide behind their art nor do we give them a pass for their (alleged) transgressions without taking time to find the truth.
The words “your eyes have flown away” I interpret as her soul. Her quiet is “distracted and far away” ~ not at peace.
And, patriarchal undertones follow with, “ it seems like a kiss would close your mouth.” ~ silence her, which was acceptable in past generations.
The reference to her being gripped by the wrist, a statue and unresponsive, wide eyed imply fear.
And he writes she should despise him.
