In end of life situations with loved ones, people panic. Sadly, it becomes all about them—not respecting the person dying. Fear of losing them is enough to justify going against the wishes of their loved ones.
My Mom had a DNR—do you think my family respected her wishes? No. Broken families divide during times of sadness more often than not, adding to the trauma.
A friend chose Dying With Dignity. His brother and best friend were with him at the end. It takes faith and courage to make that decision which only the person has the right to make for themselves.
Respect is the bottom line.
