External views generate traffic. The Medium algo recognizes where engagement activity is and will promote a "popular" story internally.

However, I ran a backend check and found that FRIEND LINKS (external views) negatively affected my READ-RATIO. Counted as a VIEW but NOT a READ. IT Sent a note to Buster to look into it.
